Navigating Disability Colorado

Navigating Disability Colorado is an independent advocacy company founded in 2021 that empowers the disability community to successfully advocate for services. Medicaid waivers offer lifelong medical and community-based services for people with disabilities. However, it’s difficult to navigate the benefits system. NDC addresses this need, and is the only Colorado company that offers a program that teaches everything necessary to apply for a Colorado Medicaid waiver and maximize its life-changing benefits.

MISSION AND HISTORY

The beautiful inspiration behind Lilly's Voice Inc, is Autistic, has Apraxia, and is considered non-speaking. Her parents never wanted her to feel like she couldn't communicate with others, so right before she turned 3 they purchased an AAC device for her. Having the ability to communicate has helped her grow into the thriving person she is today, however not all children are lucky enough to receive an AAC device. Many parents try to work through the school district or their insurance company, only to be given the run around, be told their child needs to meet antiquated prerequisites, and are eventually waitlisted or rejected all together. Some have access to AAC Lending Libraries or recycling programs, but again, the waitlists can be long, and most don't want to lose precious time.

AAC should be easy to acquire for all anyone that needs one, however since they aren't, many parents end up purchasing their own and then try to help their child without the aid of professionals. So what happens if a parent jumps through all the right hoops, is continuously rejected, and cannot afford AAC on their own? That's when Lilly's Voice comes in! Our mission is to provide communication devices to those that need it, similar to Lilly, but can't get it themselves, because ALL children deserve a voice!

When someone is approved for an AAC device through Lilly's Voice, we will not only make arrangements for the purchase of the device and/or software, we will also provide resources to assist the family in setting up the device, as well as tactics for teaching the child how to use it (if needed).

A. V. Hunter Trust

The A. V. Hunter Trust offers funding to assist individuals with the purchase of durable medical equipment, specific dental procedures, home modifications and vehicle modifications. Applications are accepted continuously and must be submitted by a referring professional. Funding is paid to the vendor or dentist.

Via Mobility Services

Via Mobility Services offers older adults and people with disabilities a way to get from one place to another. Our Via Paratransit program is a shared-ride, accessible transportation service that gets riders where they need to go. Caring drivers escort riders door-through-door and assist them on and off the bus.

Via Mobility Services is a distinguished 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit organization committed to empowering people with limited mobility by offering comprehensive transportation solutions in eight counties in Colorado.

Since 1979, we have enriched lives by providing tailored, responsive mobility services to thousands of older adults, people with disabilities, low-income individuals, and rural residents.

Two Angels Foundation

Our Reason for Being
Two Angels Foundation, Inc. was organized in the memory of Allyson and Rachel Mohatt. Both girls were diagnosed with Nemaline Myopathy, a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy. Providing them with the most normal life possible was their family’s primary goal. After long, brave battles, they both passed away at the age of five. Because Allyson and Rachel touched so many lives, friends and family have come together to form the Two Angels Foundation in their memory.

Obtaining funding for adaptive equipment can be a financial burden for many families and in many cases is not covered by health insurance. The Two Angels Foundation will help purchase adaptive recreational equipment including bikes for children living in Colorado. Both Allyson and Rachel were able to attend their neighborhood preschools and it was a very positive experience. This was possible because of the adaptive equipment that was available to them. We want to provide similar opportunities for kids with special needs.

Two Angels: Allyson and Rachel's Story
Allyson was born April 12, 1995 and appeared to be healthy and vibrant at birth. She was a dream come true for her loving family. At a two month check-up she was not physically progressing and at one year a muscle biopsy revealed Nemaline Myopathy, a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy. Since neither parent had any history of muscular disease, doctors advised that the chances of having another child with this disease were very slim. Unfortunately, that was not the case.

Rachel was born on April 8, 1999 and at four months old was diagnosed with the same disease. While both girls had big hearts and active minds, the disease made them extremely weak. Both girls relied on the use of special walkers and both needed custom wheelchairs. The lack of muscular development made such routine sicknesses as the common cold a life threatening ailment.

Though both Allyson and Rachel had numerous hospital stays, weekly therapy sessions and scores of medical appointments, they were happy and vibrant little girls. Providing them with the most normal life possible was their family’s primary goal. Both girls loved preschool and playing with other kids. After long, brave battles they both passed away at the age of 5. Because Allyson and Rachel touched so many lives, friends and family have come together to form the Two Angels Foundation.

Our Mission
The mission of the Two Angels Foundation is increasing the recreational opportunities for children with physical disabilities, inspiring them to lead the most inclusive and active lives possible.

AMBUCS

Mission Statement: Inspiring people to conquer challenges related to mobility and independence, through a nationwide network of volunteer chapters, working in partnership with physical, occupational and speech therapists; by providing Amtryke adaptive trykes, scholarships for therapists and many forms of community service.

This is an organization that has regional chapters that supply adaptive bikes/trikes to families through scholarships.

Inspiring Mobility and Independence. AMBUCS is a 501c3 nonprofit community service organization with over 150 chapters nationwide. National AMBUCS owns and operates Amtryke LLC, an adaptive tricycle company.

Santa’s Little Hackers

Santa's Little Hackers is a seasonal toy drive to adapt toys. We make simple modifications to the electronics of toys and give them away.

These adaptations make the toys accessible to individuals with disabilities so they can play independently.

Santa's Little Hackers is an annual event put on by MaxMods. MaxMods is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation chartered to 'make the world accessible for all' by identifying adaptations and modifications to make the world work for individuals living with disabilities.

There are opportunities to donate toys, modify toys, and apply to receive modified toys.

Walkin’ & Rollin’ Costumes

Our Mission:
To provide any child with special needs equipment a unique and custom built costume, free of charge to the family.

About Walkin' & Rollin' Costumes:
Every child deserves a cool costume. Sometimes, though, that’s a little more challenging, especially for those in walkers and wheelchairs. That’s why Walkin’ & Rollin’ Costumes was born: to be able to create something truly unique and custom-made for these special kids … something that’s free of charge to the family. Thanks to a nationwide network of volunteers, sponsors and donors, we’re able to bring smiles to kids’ faces around the country and bring their imaginations to life.

The KENNA Foundation

The KENNA Foundation is a Colorado nonprofit serving individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. We partner with healthcare professionals and community organizations to address health disparities and social determinants of health throughout El Paso County. Our programs are privately funded through individual donors, corporate sponsorships, grants, fundraising efforts, and community donations. We do not accept government funding to ensure our programs remain available to all individuals with developmental disabilities in El Paso County regardless of their financial resources.
