National Fragile X Syndrome Awareness Day

Fragile X Syndrome (FXS) is a genetic condition that causes someone to not produce adequate amounts of a protein called FMRP that is needed for brain development. This syndrome can affect both boys and girls however girls’ symptoms are usually milder. People with FXS can have developmental delays, learning difficulties, and social or behavioral problems. Although there is no cure, there is typically no change to life expectancy and with supportive therapies, people with FXS can live happier, fuller lives.
