July is a time to learn more about clefts of the lip and palate. Approximately 2600 babies are born with cleft palate in the United States every each. Another 4400 babies are born with cleft lip, with or without cleft palate annually. These issues can cause difficulties with eating, speaking, and hearing along with social skills and tooth development. Many cases are able to be corrected with surgery.
