Child Abuse and Neglect is defined by the Federal statute as “at a minimum, any recent act or failure to act on the part of a parent or caretaker which results in death, serious physical or emotional harm, sexual abuse or exploitation (including sexual abuse) or an act or failure to act which presents an imminent risk of serious harm.” Each state defines this further and supports professionals and organizations in learning how to recognize signs and symptoms of abuse along with supporting families to reduce the risk of abuse and neglect.
