March 2nd is Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Because of that, the National Education Association decided it would be the perfect day to encourage children to read. For our youngest kiddos, reading may look more like pointing to and labeling a single picture on a page. As their ability to understand and communicate develops, they may be more interested in hearing more words on the page, or descriptions of what is going on. Remember to expand from nouns to adjectives and verbs. Eventually, they may be reading the book to you. Whatever stage your kiddo is at in their reading development, spend some extra time expanding their exposure to words and concepts through reading on this day, and as many others as you can fit in.
