As parents, one of the first things we realize is how quickly our kids grow. They’re in and out of clothes in no time, and shoes often still look brand new when they’ve already become too small. Our kiddos are truly growing at lightning speed. For parents of children with special needs, there’s an added challenge: outgrowing vital support equipment, such as standing frames, activity chairs, and orthotics.

While there are some great local organizations where we can donate outgrown equipment, I haven’t yet found a place that accepts unneeded orthotics. That is, until now! One of our families is partnering with the Christian organization Joni & Friends for one of their Wheels for the World trips. On this trip, they’ll be delivering refurbished wheelchairs to people in Guadalajara, Mexico. The family has generously offered to collect orthotics to take along as well, sharing them with those in need.

If you have SMOs, AFOs, Benik splints, thumb spicas, or really any orthotic that your child or family member has outgrown, please consider donating it. We are asking for donations to be given to one of our therapists, who will ensure they are passed on to another family who can benefit from them.

Please note, we have a short window for this collection, as Kristy will be delivering the donations to the family on Wednesday, 4/9/25. We kindly ask that all donations be received by her the day before. So, check your garages and closets, reach out to friends, post in special needs groups, and rally the community to help other special needs families in need.
